OUR STORY

Run For Her Life was born from a trip to Australia by Shan Schauffler over Mother's Day in 2007. Since he wasn't able to spend Mother's Day with his own mother, Shan ran a 5K that day in her honor. He brought that idea home. He thought we should organize a Breast Cancer 5K on Mother's Day and use the proceeds to pay for mammograms for those with a financial barrier to receiving one. If we could help diagnose cancer early, we may allow  families to spend another Mother's Day with the one's they love. A committee was established and the first race was held Mother's Day 2008. The original committee consisted of Shan Schauffler, who can be seen running the race in all pink, including a pink tutu,  his mother Carol Schauffler, his sister Neisha Hairston, Cheryl Spotts (a breast cancer survivor), and Lori Turk, whose mother and mother-in-law both had breast cancer and who in 2014,  was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Jullia Spotts, Dara John and Karie Flood  joined the committee in 2012.  The event has grown each year and the community support is amazing!

With the help of the community, Run For Her Life as been able to impact many lives, but we felt like we could do more! Starting in 2020, our mission has expanded to include ALL cancers. Every family navigating a cancer diagnosis should have the benefit of the community rallying around them. From this day forward, we are ALL for One and One for ALL! Every ribbon is a reason and we support them all! We hope you will join us!
